The God-breathed sufficiency of Scripture, together with the example of apostolic suffering and the certainty of increasing evil, grounds Timothy's — and every believer's — call to continued faithfulness.

Second Timothy 3:13–15 sets forth a sharp contrast between the downward trajectory of evil men and the upward calling of Timothy to continued faithfulness. Paul's exhortation identifies three foundations for perseverance: the certainty that evil will increase, the pattern of godly suffering modeled by Paul himself, and the sufficiency of the God-breathed Scriptures known from childhood. The sermon presses the hearer to ground assurance and endurance not in circumstances but in the authority and power of the Word of God.
