The Word of God stands at the center of 1 Samuel 3, framing the entire chapter like bookends — its scarcity in verse 1 and its prevalence in verse 21. This study traces Samuel's official call to the prophetic office through four movements: the rarity of revelation as divine judgment, Samuel's gradual calling as the new preacher of the word, the grave threatened judgment on Eli's house, and the establishment of Samuel's prophetic ministry throughout all Israel. The abiding application is that the presence of the word is God's blessing and its absence is God's judgment, pressing hearers to be diligent students of Scripture while it remains freely available.
