Jesus' declaration 'I am the True Vine' (John 15:1a) is not merely a pastoral metaphor but a covenantal claim rooted in the entire sweep of redemptive history. Drawing on biblical and covenant theology, the sermon traces how old covenant Israel was repeatedly identified as God's vine in the Psalms and prophets — a vine that bore wild grapes, rejected the servants, and ultimately crucified the Son — and argues that Christ as the last Adam and true Israel fulfills every obligation that Adam and Israel forfeited.
