The Judgment Seat of Christ
Matthew 7:21–23 presents one of the most sobering scenes in all of Scripture: many who prophesied, cast out demons, and performed wonders in Christ's name will hear the verdict 'I never knew you.' This sermon works through that passage under three headings — the event (the final judgment), the plea (works-righteousness), and the verdict (eternal separation) — demonstrating that Christ condemns every ground of acceptance with God other than faith in His doing and dying. The will of the Father is not moral performance but belief in the Son (John 6:40), and any doctrine that adds human works to that ground is lawlessness in the strictest sense. Hearers are urged to abandon self-righteousness and rest entirely on Christ's imputed righteousness, bringing nothing in the hand but clinging to the cross alone.
