I Am the Gate of the Sheep

Mike KirkpatrickJohn 10:7–10

How does a sinner enter into heaven? John 10:7–10 presents Christ's self-declaration 'I am the door of the sheep' as the exclusive answer to that question, set against the backdrop of Israel's false shepherds (Ezekiel 34; Jeremiah 23) and the Pharisees who taught salvation by works. The sermon expounds two contrasting realities: the false entrance into heaven pursued by thieves and imposters who climb in by their own merits, and the right entrance secured by Christ alone — the one gate through whom his elect sheep receive salvation, covenant security, and everlasting pasture. The application presses both the unbeliever to look to Christ as the only narrow way and the believer to rest in the security and nourishment that the Good Shepherd provides for all who enter through him.
