The Book of Ruth and the Incarnation, Part 2
Ruth 3 presents the plan of redemption as Naomi instructs Ruth to appeal to the kinsman-redeemer Boaz, prefiguring the willingness of Christ to secure the salvation of His people at any cost. The institution of the goel — the near kinsman responsible for redeeming distressed relatives — illuminates both the legal and covenantal framework within which Boaz acts and within which the incarnate Son of God acts on behalf of guilty sinners. God's sovereign providence, not circumstance or human ingenuity, orchestrates every detail in the story of Ruth toward the birth of the Messiah in Bethlehem. Sinners who recognize their need of redemption are called to look to Christ — the willing Redeemer — who came in the fullness of time to save His people from their sins.
