Free Grace Baptist Church - March 18, 2018 PM
James 5:7-12 calls the people of God to cultivate patience — toward one another and under affliction — in light of the imminent return of Christ as judge and deliverer. The sermon traces two obstacles that undermine patience: grumbling against fellow believers, which contradicts the love and long-suffering that Scripture everywhere demands, and careless or rash oath-taking, which reflects a failure to let the tongue conform to truth. The prophets and Job stand as biblical examples of endurance through suffering, with Job's trial yielding not merely restored prosperity but experiential knowledge of God — which James presents as the ultimate end the Lord intends. Believers are exhorted to establish their hearts, pursue direct reconciliation rather than complaint, and find fresh resolve in the gospel of Christ, whose blood cleanses all the impatience, grumbling, and falsehood that the passage exposes.
