The Necessity of Brotherly Love

Jim ButlerHebrews 13:1–3

Hebrews 13:1–3 closes a sustained argument about Christ's supremacy with three concrete imperatives: let brotherly love continue, show hospitality to strangers, and remember the prisoners. The sermon exposes how easily Christians drift into self-centeredness and forgetfulness, measuring these duties against the full weight of New Testament witness — from the upper room discourse to the epistles of Peter and Paul. The application is direct: genuine remembrance of suffering believers requires not mere sentiment but prayer, tangible aid, correspondence, and the willingness to identify with those in chains as fellow members of the one body of Christ.
