The First Missionary Journey, Part 6
Paul's sermon in the synagogue at Pisidian Antioch reaches its practical climax in Acts 13:38–43, where he preaches forgiveness of sins and justification by faith alone — two distinct yet inseparable blessings secured by Christ's active and passive obedience. The law of Moses cannot justify; it can only expose the sinner's inability and drive him to Christ, in whom every believer is declared righteous by the imputation of Christ's righteousness received through faith alone. Paul's warning from Habakkuk 1:5 presses the point home: to despise this gospel is to invite a judgment more severe than the Babylonian captivity. The sermon closes by tracing the same doctrine of justification through the vision of Joshua the high priest in Zechariah 3, and exhorts believers to continue in the grace of God as the only ground of perseverance.
