The Holy Spirit is Alive and Well

Cameron Porter2 Corinthians 2:10–12

The Holy Spirit is not a dormant or peripheral figure in the Christian life but an active, sovereign agent presently at work in the New Testament church. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 2:6–16 as a launching point, this sermon surveys four works of the Holy Spirit: publication (proclaiming Christ and His gospel), application (effectually applying Christ's redemptive benefits to the elect), illumination (instructing and sanctifying believers through the Word), and confirmation (sealing and guaranteeing the certainty of redemption). The triune harmony of the Father's predestination, the Son's perfect accomplishment, and the Spirit's effectual application is shown to be coherent, unstoppable, and the ground of Christian assurance and prayer.
