Not Ashamed of the Gospel

Mike Kirkpatrick

Paul's final letter charges Timothy — and every believer — not to be ashamed of Christ's gospel or of those who suffer for it. Expounding 2 Timothy 1:8–12, this sermon confronts the tendency to romanticize persecution in the abstract while failing to stand when actual pressure comes, drawing pointed application from recent governmental restrictions on church gatherings. The ground of unashamed endurance is the gospel itself: God's eternal purpose of grace, accomplished in Christ who has abolished death and brought immortality to light, and entrusted to a church that shall never finally fail. Christians are called to pray for courage in times of peace precisely so they do not waver when suffering arrives.
