The Book of Ruth and the Incarnation, Part 3
Ruth 4 presents the legal resolution of the kinsman-redeemer transaction and the marriage of Boaz and Ruth as the culmination of God's sovereign providence — and as the direct historical platform for the Incarnation. The closer relative's refusal to redeem clears the way for Boaz, who publicly acquires both the land and Ruth according to the Leveret law, typifying Christ's definite and effectual work of salvation. The genealogy of Ruth 4:18–22 is the hermeneutical key to the entire book: it runs directly into Matthew 1, where the Son of David is revealed as the one who will save His people — not make them savable — from their sins. Hearers are called to flee to Christ alone, whose saving work is particular, complete, and irrevocable.
