The Description of Discipleship
Matthew 16:24–26 sets before every professing believer a three-part description of discipleship: self-denial, cross-bearing, and following Christ. This sermon argues that Jesus is not addressing unbelievers with a program for earning salvation, but is describing the necessary shape of a life already transformed by sovereign grace — a life in which self is renounced, suffering for Christ is embraced as a daily reality, and nothing in this world is valued above the soul. The exhortation is direct: examine whether your life is ordered around Christ or around self, repent where it is not, and trust not in your own self-denial but in Christ's perfect obedience and resurrection.
