1 Kings 12:25-33
Jeroboam's religious innovations in 1 Kings 12:25–33 are not a misunderstood accommodation but institutionalized idolatry driven by fear, insecurity, and a refusal to trust the God who gave him his throne. The passage exposes six specific violations: rejection of the first and second commandments, the central sanctuary law of Deuteronomy 12, Solomon's temple, the Levitical priesthood, the appointed feast calendar, and the canonical rule of Deuteronomy 12:32 against adding to or taking from God's commands. The sermon draws a direct line from Jeroboam's heart-driven worship innovations to the regulative principle of worship, arguing that acceptable worship is defined solely by divine prescription, not human preference or political convenience.
