The Apostle Paul, Part 4: His Doctrinal Legacy

Cameron Porter

The doctrinal legacy of the Apostle Paul is surveyed across seven theological themes: the comprehensive nature of sin and depravity, the incarnation of the divine Son of God, the sovereignty of the triune God in salvation, amazing grace, justification by faith alone, sanctification in union with Christ, and a simple and glorious eschatology. Paul's writings are shown to move consistently from the gravity of man's ruin to the glory of God's redeeming grace in Christ. The sermon closes with a direct call to believers to be built up in the knowledge of the gospel, and to those outside of Christ to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.

Clip: Breathtaking kindness! And the danger of rejecting the Son

Unknown

Drawing from John 3 and John 6:37, this excerpt sets the grace of God in sending his Son against the solemn reality of condemnation for unbelief. The breathtaking condescension of the incarnation — that the only true God came down for sinners — is meant to produce humility, admiration, and worship. The appeal closes with the binary that brooks no middle ground: come to Christ and be saved, or die in your sins.

Judges 4 & 5

Jim ButlerJudges 4

Judges 4 exposes the recurring cycle of Israel's sin, oppression, and divine deliverance, demonstrating that God is the sovereign architect of both judgment and rescue. The narrative centers on Barak as the appointed judge-deliverer, with Deborah functioning as prophetess and Jael as instrument of God's final blow against Sisera — neither woman is a proto-feminist heroine but an agent of the divine agenda against oppressive Canaanites. God's sovereignty over history is traced from the raising up of Jabin's iron-chariot army to the flooding of the Kishon River and the tent peg in Sisera's temple, with the summary of verses 23–24 deliberately crediting no human agent. The study calls hearers to rest in the warrior-God who delivers His people by means as minute as a relocated tent and as decisive as a sleeping general's death.
