The Shocking Character of God's Grace, Part 2
Hosea 2–3 unfolds the shocking extent of God's covenant grace toward an adulterous Israel, moving from indictment and threatened covenant curses to a stunning promise of new covenant restoration. The broken relationship between Yahweh and Israel — mirrored in Hosea's own marriage to the unfaithful Gomer — exposes Israel's theological bankruptcy: no knowledge of God, ingratitude for His gifts, and the deliberate attribution of His blessings to Baal. Yet God's response is not permanent abandonment but a promise to betroth His people to Himself forever, in righteousness, loving-kindness, faithfulness, and mercy — blessings secured by the Lord Jesus Christ, the greater David and the antitype of Hosea, who purchased His people through His blood at Calvary. The sermon calls its hearers to fear the Lord whose grace is more shocking than any scandal, and to flee to Christ as the only Savior for sinners.
