CLIP: Jesus is the Best

Jim Butler

The supremacy of Christ over all things is the ground on which sinners must rest. Drawing from Peter's response to foot-washing in John 13 and Paul's declaration in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, this clip argues that what Jesus accomplished is not merely ceremonial cleansing but the total washing, sanctification, and justification of guilty sinners. To possess Christ by faith is to receive every spiritual blessing, because he saves to the uttermost.

The Gospel According to Hosea: Part 1

Ryan MaljaarsHosea 2:14–23

Hosea 2:14–23 presents the gospel in the form of an ancient Near Eastern marriage sequence — courtship, betrothal, and consummation — in which Yahweh pursues His unfaithful bride with an offer of abundant and eternal life. The passage is read as a mirror, not a window: the same spiritual harlotry that defined Israel before God defines every human being who has followed Adam into exile from God's presence. Justification is the legal transaction by which the sinner entrusts herself to God as husband, not master — received by faith alone, sealed by Christ's atoning work as the bride price of righteousness and mercy. The sermon closes with an urgent call to the unbeliever to accept the offer of eternal life, and with an exhortation to the believer to press on in anticipation of the consummation still to come.

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

Jim ButlerEphesians 1:13–14

What is the Holy Spirit's relationship to the Father and the Son, and why does it matter that Christians understand this precisely? Working through Ephesians 1:13–14 as the destination, this sermon first establishes the full personal divinity of the Holy Spirit by tracing his presence and activity across both Testaments — from creation in Genesis 1 through the baptism of Christ, Pentecost, and the apostolic letters — demonstrating that the Spirit is not a force or a lesser deity but the third person of the one undivided triune God. The sermon draws on the 1689 London Baptist Confession chapter 2 paragraph 3, the Nicene Creed, and a wide range of triadic New Testament texts to guard against the heresies of Sabellianism and Arianism. The congregation is called to pursue the knowledge of this triune God as the irreplaceable foundation of assurance, evangelism, and Christian perseverance.

Free Grace Baptist Church - April 24, 2016 AM

Unknown

Matthew 7:13–27 closes the Sermon on the Mount with four pressing contrasts — two gates, two trees, two professions, and two builders — each calling hearers not merely to receive information but to act upon the words of Christ. The reading and exposition press the distinction between nominal profession and true faith: those who cry 'Lord, Lord' and point to their own works are cast away, while those who do the Father's will are shown by the rest of Scripture to be those who believe the gospel. The application is direct — to build on sand is to hear Christ's words and refuse them, and the only safe foundation is faith in what Christ has accomplished.

Gideon's Victory Over the Midianites

Jim ButlerJudges 6:33

Judges 7 records God's reduction of Gideon's army from 32,000 to 300 men before routing the Midianites — not because Israel marshalled superior strength, but precisely so that no Israelite could claim the glory of victory. This sermon traces four movements in the narrative: the assembling of enemies and the Spirit's coming upon Gideon, the divinely-ordered troop reduction, God's patient encouragement of a fearful Gideon through a pagan soldier's dream, and the midnight rout of Midian. The controlling thesis is that God perfects His strength through human weakness so that glory belongs to Him alone, a principle the sermon applies to the church's ongoing mission and to the gospel call addressed directly to unbelievers in the congregation.
