The Danger of Losing Your First Love

The letter to the church in Ephesus in Revelation 2:1–7 exposes a danger that threatens doctrinally sound, faithful churches: the abandonment of first love for Christ. The church in Ephesus was commendable for its diligence, its testing of false apostolic claims, and its patient endurance — yet Christ leveled one devastating charge against it: 'you have left your first love.' The sermon examines how doctrinal vigilance, controversy, and spiritual laziness can drain the warmth of affection for Christ from the heart, and calls believers to the threefold remedy Christ himself prescribes — remember, repent, and do — all animated by love for the Savior rather than mere duty.
