The Redemption of Boaz and the Hope of Christ the King
Ruth 4 culminates the book's central theme of redemption, showing how Boaz's costly love for Ruth and Naomi foreshadows the costlier love of Christ for his unlovely people. The kinsman-redeemer who willingly takes on an obligation he was not bound to fulfill — redeeming land, line, and a Moabite widow — points forward through the Davidic genealogy to the King who identifies with sinners and purchases his bride at the price of his own blood. God's sovereign providence moves through unsavory sinners and hopeless circumstances to build the royal line, a pattern that should silence despair among God's people in every age. The sermon calls believers to find their only settled hope in Christ the King, and invites the unbeliever to look to that same King and live.
